The Return

No, I”m not talking here  the 2003 Russian film or the 2004 horror flick with Sarah Michelle  Gellar.  Koko, the domestic shorthair and Jean Claude, the black Bombay  have come to spend a little time with me.  That means a lot of things, certain furnishings are covered, scratching posts in strategic places. The main thing is to remember to raise blinds, curtains etc. so that they can witness the world from various windows in my house and so Jean Claude continue to keep an ongoing conversation with the birds in the backyard.

Tyler Perry has produced a new show for the OWN network entitled “The. Have And Have Nots” full on intruque, faux drama, and camp. I haven’t seen it yet but I enjoy the ABC drama “Scandal” with Kerri Washington and except for cooking and house hunting shows I dislike reality television. Those of you who read this blog know I prefer the drama of Jean Claude and Koko. You also know JC raids my closet when he is at my house leaving a mess and now,as I found the other day , he also hid his special toys such as the cough drop pictured here in my closet.

I Miss You

Imissyou - Copy

Jean Claude, the black Bombay and Koko, the domestic shorthair are back at CCL’s house.  You may recall(Who Ya Gonna Call) that they came to my house in April  to scare away a mouse.   CCL came and got them back last week.

I miss you critters.

Who Ya Gonna Call?

I have the pleasure of entertaining Jean Claude and KoKo this week.  Actually they are here to work.  A small  mouse got the memo that the celebrity cats  were taking up permanent residence at CCL’s house and decided to show its tail at my house.  Naturally I was horrified  and called CCL to bring the cats over to take care of situation.  Koko and JC “ain’t afraid of no mouse.”

Setting limits

Azeena seems to think that I’m too hard on Koko. However, Koko needs to know her limits.

I used to love the show “It’s me or the dog” which came on Animal Planet. The original British version which was 1/2 in length before they brought it to America and ruined it. One of the things Victoria Stillwell said was that animals need to know what’s acceptable and what’s not. Now you can do this through training and association, i.e. Pavlov but w/o the shocks and that’s all I’m doing. Animals prefer to the limits because they know what they can do.

Koko doesn’t mind. She loves me. In fact, she loves me so much she has decided that anytime I bend over, she’s going to jump on my back. Here is a picture of her doing it while she cleans herself.

Ah yes. Koko also climbs up in my lap after she’s had her evening meal for a rub and to sleep.

She is also still bad. She bopped JC last night for no reason other than she wanted to play and he wanted to play a different toy.

Poor Jean-Claude. He just wants to play, belly rubs and Fancy Feast.

Spring Fever

Well Spring is here although in DC it is hard to tell. With temperatures during the day about 15 – 25 degrees cooler than it normally is. This hasn’t stopped the cats from going out. I have finally decided to stop fighting with Koko and now let her climb the trees and jump from limb to limb. The good thing about the trees at the new house is that they are very thick and the branches are thick. She won’t have to worry about crashing down somewhere.

But I do think Spring Fever has hit the animals. As Azeena wrote and my coworker can confirm, for some reason animals have been extra needy. I’ve seen it on JC and Koko where they are much more affectionate. I think they sense the change in weather and my just be buttering us up to go outside more.

The one habit Koko has adopted is she can’t figure out why I take showers. She stands on the edge of the bathtub and then starts yelling at my when I get out of the shower. She then wants to be held to assure herself that water hasn’t washed me away. I hope one day she’ll realize that bathing is just one of those human traits and despite her thoughts, her owner won’t wash down the drain. Only the soap.

We All Have Days Like L’il Peanut

My sister-girlfriend’s dog , Li’l Peanut, was  a tad down recently needing more of my friend’s  attention than normal.  My girlfriend speculates that the dog  is  missing her guardian angel, my friend’s daughter, who was  off to  science camp.   The remedy of course is that Peanut needed  more attention.

L’il Peanut Had the Blues

We all have days like  L’il Peanut.  There are some simple things we can do: pray, read, pray again, call friends who are doing a little worse than we are, volunteer, watch mindless television, read a good book, take a walk but  it’s probably most important to  remember “This Too Shall Pass.”  Spring is officially here.

Like This and LIke That and Like Cat MEOW

Koko, the domestic short-hair and Jean Claude, the black Bombay follow their own rhythm.  They have rituals that play out daily including sleeping with CCL and letting her know their preferences when it comes to what kind of food they want and where they want to go to the bathroom.   Often they remind me of the song by Dr. Dre and Snoop  Dog – Like This and Like That  and Like This…except in cat language.

Here’s the video:

Pet of the Week

Koko made pet of the week at the Brookland Bridge. My former neighbors do a fantastic blog about life in Brookland. From an objective standpoint it is truly a neighborhood blog. It talks about life, dining, development, happenings, pets, real estate. I wonder how they do it!

Check it out if you have the time. I’m sure even if you don’t live in Brookland you can find something that will spark your curiosity!
