Preparation

I admit it.  I am a perfectionist.  I like things that have order and purpose.  That’s the thing about sharing custody of cats.  They are clean and persnickety but they need care and your furniture is subject to their moods.   Cats rule.  This week Koko comes to stay with me for an extended time period.  As I am a big fan of HGTV, particularly “Fixer Upper,” I’ve begun the work needed to make her as comfortable as possible.  Her jumping chair is strategically placed for her to jump to the top of my dining room hutch and of course,  custom blinds have been installed in the porch window of my house for her viewing pleasure.

I am a perfectionist but I’m learning.

Here Is Wonderful

For  many  2016 was a tough year.  For some including me it was a time  to let go of some situations and people who were not conducive to personal or professional growth.  We’re here  now  -2017 has arrived.  The New Year brings us promise  and hope for positive change.   As I move in a new  direction  with a new year  in bloom, despite challenges, there is a  is a lot to be grateful for  and I am happy that I am present.    I learned to enjoy life without the need for prestige.   I have a wonderful group of friends I enjoy.   I  live in a wonderful neighborhood, Brookland, DC.  It has taken  me years to get to a place where I choose peace and I am still not an expert.   It helps that Koko is one of my “life coaches.”    Though she likes attention,  for Koko it’s often a  matter of finding the right box for a nap.

The Kindness of Cats

Posted on

I am increasingly convinced that there are people that are born with a hole in their soul.  We all know  them – people   who are convinced of their own greatness.  They lack empathy for others and are not only totally self-involved but devoid of anything resembling compassion. They treat others like toys to be manipulated.  The spotlight must be on them at all time .  Pettiness is their tour de force.

Until recently cats were often characterized as  resembling these selfish,  unfeeling souls.  Recent evidence such as  Tara the rescue cat who saved her four-year old charge from a dog  indicates otherwise.   Thanks to digital and social media there are the numerous examples of cats as heroes, singers, gate keepers and cats in nursing homes who offer comfort to those in pain or who are dying.   I’m reminded of the kindness of cats when Koko comes to cuddle and watch Netflix with me or Jean Claude, sensing I’m  feeling down, comes to play or rub again me.   Cats can be kind and  can serve as an example for us human beings  as well.

Custom Blinds

Custom blind companies do a booming business the Washington, D.C. area where CCL and I live.  We both have used  the services of such companies and the results have been great.  Still, there are rooms in my house where installation of  custom blinds, curtains or even shades would not be a viable option for Jean Claude and Koko.  They like to look out the windows of various rooms, particularly my bedroom and my living room.   Jean Claude as expressed his desire opening at first destroying the plastic blinds that I have in my bedroom, now he simply pats on the blinds each morning so I will raise them for his viewing pleasure.

The living room is another matter.  As you can see I have found a solution that suits the needs of the cats.
