Validation

Posted on

Right now KoKo the domestic shorthair and Jean Claude the black Bombay are at my house. They want to be rubbed and petted. Sometimes KoKo constantly.  Humans are like that as well.  Oprah, the mega mega media mogul and interviewer was asked what was common among the throngs of famous folks she interviewed “They all, after the interview she replied,”wanted to know if they did all right. ”   From Mother Theresa to President Obama, we all need know if we are “ok” and if we did “ok.”   The need  for validation is something we all share.  Certain political figures and entertainers need it  more than most but make no mistake – we all want it in some form.   The applause ,the  polling numbers , the Tony the Oscar, the Gold Medal- the job, the second date, the hello or the smile. We all seek the pat on the head, the OK that we are ok.  Actor George Saunders character in the the 1951 Classic, ” All About Eve” said “We are all born equipped with little horns – to announce our presence.”   As humans we want to know we are valued, admired.    Hatred in its shallow and most visceral form invalidates us with messages that we are  somehow not ok whether if it’s  because of the color of our skin or who we worship or who we love.

Recent events worldwide show us we must go back to the Source.  Hate invalidates us all – God loves us all the same.

Aquas De Marco (Waters of March)

It has been a long winter in  Washington, D.C. .  This is  a town  where we used to get just a couple of snowstorms a year  but now we got snow and messy weather (for this region) on a regular basis.  It definitely put a cramp in Jean Claude and Koko’s activities as they like to go in CCL’s backyard and explore.   The winter season  had a pretty dramatic impact on me as well.  There were disappointments , some sadness, some hurt but now I find myself feeling happy  again with knowledge that many blessings are coming with  the spring.

One of my favorite songs by Antonio Jobim – Aquas De Marco-  literally says it all

By the way this month, starts the fifth anniversary of “Cats and All That”  go to our Facebook  page and say hi.

Find Peace

CCL and I had a marvelous time at the Prince “Rally4Peace” concert in Baltimore.  There’s been a lot of talk about peace.   The events in Baltimore – no justice no peace.  The call for peace.   Yes, social justice must come.  Peace must come.    For us all the struggle for inner peace is also challenging.  To live fully,  we must find it within ourselves on a daily basis.  It does not come naturally or easily and it is often hard fought.  I believe inner peace comes for sure through a connection with God and a connection with yourself.  Yes,  as you own yourself you will find the elusive peace.

I am the ultimate “Prince” fan but for this blog Sashal Vansandi’s song “No More” speaks to owning yourself and finding your peace.
