The Value of Peace

Posted on

We have heard a lot of criticism of  those who value “peace at any price.”  We’re told those folks are pushovers,  they never stand up for themselves, etc. etc.   Sometimes their silence, refusal to buy-in is just another form of warfare but often it’s a form of protection.

For some, peace is not on their agenda.  There are those who because of their own loneliness and despair seek disruption through mean-spirited comments or unfortunate jabs or just plain cruelty.  Words of anger, actions of anger, envy dominate the course of their existence.  They are the “reality TV” stars of their own personal and ongoing drama and unfortunately, they seek to take others hostage.

Peace is valuable to our spiritual sanity.  Seek it every day.  Say no to systems and people who try to make you part of their petty dramas.   Recently, I saw an episode of the original “Star Trek” where a race, known as “The Organians,” seem to take abuse from the Klingons who have “conquered” their planet and appear unconcerned when the Klingons start taking their citizens hostage.  All this, much to the dismay of Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise who arrived on the planet to help.   Eventually, the Organian leaders, using mind control,  quietly overpower the Klingons and the Federation ships that are about to go to war.  Then they tell both factions, “that’s enough we’re tired of you” as the Organians visibly change from “humanoids” to spirits of light.

The Organians Simply Aren’t Having It With The Klingons or The Star Trek Enterprise

Peace

There are some who seek drama and excitement at every turn.  Life for them is reality TV – anything but real – never peaceful.

The soul  needs the subtle nuturing  that only a moment of quiet  and peace can bring – ok maybe in Brookland DC birds are still  chirping.   Try a quiet prayer, look up, a yoga pose – but a moment

Regardless of religious belief or practice, there are ways to find a moment for soul renewal – even if it’s just to sit in one’s backyard with a good book for five minutes.image

Office Space

officespaceI have a virtual office for my business and I work out of my  tiny home office.    The office  is full of memorabilla with a sunny view of my TV room.  It’s small, warm and cozy.   Of all the spaces in my house, Koko and Jean Claude seem to like  my office best.   CCL says it’s   because I’m always in my office.  I think the cats just want a small, warm place for their headquarters.

Truly Blessed

My house is a mess.  Contractors have repaired the bedroom ceiling and repaired a few other things around the house that were broken.  Dust is everywhere and my bedroom and dining room furniture is piled into other rooms.  Jean Claude and Roxie have enjoyed the adventures the clutter has created.  In an effort to protect my laser printer I covered it with a blanket – now the printer is a resting place for the Japanese bobtail.  Jean Claude likes perching atop my television set – now in the front room by a window.  Soon the work will be completed and while  I still have some cleaning to do, there will be order and my house will look even better    It’s been a pretty rough time for me personally and professionally but I know that just like my house- God is just repairing my soul and that I will have to make the decision to do the clean up and peace will come.     .

Morning Constitutional

When at my house, Roxie and Jean Claude have a morning routine. If I am not up by a certain time Roxie jumps on the bed and gets in my face to wake me up.   After I go through a couple of my own morning rituals, I go downstairs quickly followed by Jean Claude and Roxie who usually stop to take in a little breakfast and then wait for me to open the back porch door so they can go outside.   JC generally likes to go and hang for awhile. When the neighbors let their dogs out and the dogs bark,  he sits in the grass unphased, ocassionally dialouginng with birds.   Roxie of course is well sheself. Of late she’s taken to plopping on  my easy chair in my outdoor sitting room underneath the back porch. Just chillin.
