Safety Concerns

Posted on

Roxie, the Japanese bobtail, and Jean Claude, the black Bombay, spent part of their morning this morning poised on top of a chair looking through my front living room window. They still are not that comfortable in their usual morning spot at my bedroom window. I think I’ve mentioned I have had some challenges lately with the roof over my bedroom ceiling. A roof blowback, then collapse. A tarp has been placed over the roof and it rained heavily last night. I could hear the splatter and I was afraid. Still as if to comfort me Roxie sat in her spot which is just below the hole in the ceiling where the ceiling caved. By the way before the tarp was placed on the roof, Roxie wouldn’t go near her spot. She would look at me and then look at the hole and look at me and look at the hole and walk away. She senses the tarp and it brings her comfort. There’s been a lot of rain and wind lately. Folks in my neighborhood have seen trees and roofs collapse. Lots of repairs, lots of roofers.

I think about wind, rain and roof issues and the people of Japan. Their bravery, their steadfastness – inspire. Their visible grief – heartbreaking. Prayers of safety and restoration to the people of Japan. May God provide them a tarp of safety, blessings and peace.

And So It Goes

Years ago  there was a highly popular overnight show on NBC, quirky and fun.  Host Linda Ellerbee would end the program with the words “And So It Goes.”   The show met with an unfortunate termination after only a few years and Ellerbee went on to write a  book about the broadcast news industry and to form Lucky Duck Productions.   I remember meeting Linda Ellerbee at the Red Sage Restaurant.  I was there with some of my colleagues and folks from Mattel, we had just finished a news conference and an all day event with then CEO Jill Barnard and track star Florence  Griffith Joyner and her husband.   We were pretty loud and someone from Ms. Ellerbee’s table came over to our table to ask us to tone it down.  I looked over and saw her and rushed over to her and  gushed about my insomnia and my desire to see her back on television again..   She said she was done with the news business.  I think Lucky Duck was in its infancy and now of course it is an an award winning production company producing programs and features for a myriad of networks.   Jill Barnard is no longer CEO of Mattel and Flo Jo passed a few years after the event.   Lucky Duck — still going strong.

Blinds, Birds and Trash Trucks

JC at the Bedroom Window

Jean Claude is a peace-loving animal.   He looks out my bedroom window and actually tries to chat with the birds.  Roxie, as those of you who read this blog know, is not so accomodating.    Like most Bombays JC thinks he’s a dog and wants his belly rubbed. Last night he needed extra attention. Ms. Roxie was not  pleased as she feels her need for nighttime attention supersedes his or anyone else’s for that matter.  Eventually the fur began to fly…yes, at 3 am and on my bed!!  Then, détente.  Later Jean Claude made an early  morning request  that the blinds to my bedroom window  be raised — by patting them– to accommodate his need to view his kingdom aka my backyard.  Wednesday is trash day and for whatever reason he seems to find the process of trash collection fascinating.

The Places You’ll Find Love

Roxie and Jean Claude are back at my house or their other residence. They seem a bit tuckered out but happy to be here. They understand whether here or at CCL’s they are loved.

When the Cats Are Away

Roxie and Jean Claude are at their other residence. I miss them but I do welcome the chance to reclaim my home.  When they go to CCL’s house,  I undercover furniture and put away their toys and their scratching posts .  I visit them at CCL’s house.    We all need time for solitude and renewal.  It allows us  to  recapture our spirit and reflect on the many blessings from God.
