Royalty

During my time at my mom’s house, my play aunt Gloria came to call. “Aunt” Gloria and her daughter Kim have always been a source of inspiration for me and for my family. They look just alike, both are energetic and successful: Aunt Gloria as an educator, sorority maven and member of the National Council of Negro Women and Kim as a corporate executive, mom and now consultant. Seems during her Bermuda childhood Aunt Gloria played with Elizabeth soon to be future Queen of England. She and HER mother also had two private audiences with the Queen. Everyday I think of the marvelous women friends, sistah girls of all races and creeds I’ve helped or who have helped me along the way and feel truly blessed. Of course as many of you know CCL is also royalty as are Jean Claude and Roxie – the other queen.

What Is It You Want Anyway??

There is so much to be said about being clear about one’s goals. A lot of people really don’t know what they want and they rely on outside sources and other people to tell them what is best. Problem is sometimes other people, even loved ones operate or tell us what is good for us as it serves their best interests – and not ours. People, particularly those we love, often fear our need to change or to grow. Why?? It means change for them or as well and sometimes it also means the new and improved you can no longer fulfill their needs. There is nothing wrong with putting yourself first, showing yourself love and adoration. It can be the start to loving, giving and growing to your fullest capacity.

Jean Claude Giving Instructions

When author John Gray pioneered the whole “Men Are from Mars” thing, I’m sure he didn’t have cats in mind. Still Jean Claude, the male Bombay cat, is decidedly male. Going to his chair at night, retreating to his cave – and just in general while a true gentleman acts like a dude, truly. If there is no food in his bowl he is in your face, agressively looking in your eyes. When a stranger comes to the door he growls like a dog. He is very protective of CCL and me. He enjoys his solitude and will sit on the lawn in my backyard quietly watching the birds. Roxie, of course, ( a true [priss puss) just runs wild. Jean Claude doesn’t chase after the birds, he’s too cool for that but he has been known to get really wacky when exposed to large quantitites of catnip – I guess a bourbon won’t do.*

*no we do not give the cats liquor

Roxie Practices Her Balancing Act Atop Jean Claude's Back

I’m watching an old re-run of “Monk,” the detective so wonderfully portrayed by actor Tony Shaloub, who had a keen sense of perfection. We are all in some ways victims of our need to be perfect. Of course nothing is perfect except God. But we have moments so close, Ah so much to live for, experience, enjoy and share. For me it’s those just right summer days, time spent with friends and family, a hug, sharing a joke with a good friend, a summer night outdoor jazz concert, great co-workers, that last bit of a chocolate shake and of course watching Roxie and Jean Claude romp outdoors…those moments so precious…so great -full. Let me your idea of perfecction (sp).
